Baja week 3 - Los Frailes Baja Sur

Image
Since the Good Vibe Tribe expedition group arrived in Los Frailes, I have been waking up around 5 am and walking on the beach. I think that this solo peaceful wake up routine is the best.  I feel the cool sand on my feet, the waves lap my legs, and my muscles get a work out as I move with the resistance of the sand and the water's edge.  I see this world as it begins to wake up!  The sun begins to peak around the horizon until it becomes a full ball of bright yellow life warming goodness. I stop and face the sun fully, soaking in the morning warmth. I allow my eyes a few moments of drinking in those early morning life giving rays. The fisherman in the near by village begin to stir, a fish jumps, and the birds slowly begin to arrive. . I feel like taking this morning slowly. I didn't feel well yesterday. I felt the chill of the afternoon sun retreating below the horizon and retreated myself inside my tiny Tracker home. I recognized some pain in my l...

Baja week two!

Image
It's been a busy, week and I thought I would have gotten around to writing about it so it could post on Wednesday. That didn't happen as I thought...and here we go 😅!  This past week has been filled with long hours of technical driving on mostly narrow mountain passes. It's been a great trip!  The Good Vibe Tribe, @j.m.k.adventures, @mamas.got.wheels, @wayoubox.com, @chicksdoit2, and @simplylesa.com, visited with @StringlessTheory at their glamping site. We also paid a minimal amount for camping in Guerrero Negro and La Paz. It was a welcome and needed change staying in the campsites. Hot showers, a restaurant meal, a little security and opportunity to walk around in a town helped bring us closer as a group as well as providing the needed break from long driving days.  We also visited some historic missions and of course walked through some local shops.  We enjoyed bonding and playing pool at the Mulege Brewery which was one free boondocking ...

Bucket List Baja!

Image
I was in junior highschool in the early '70s. I guess I was developing ideas about who I wanted to be as an adult. I kept seeing explorers and Adventures on expeditions in Baja California Mexico and especially I remember watching the Baja 1000 races. I thought that was the coolest I wanted a Jeep I wanted to have that kind of adventure and I imagined driving on a sandy beach in Baja. Now I also was looking at a lot of surfing information in magazines and probably on TV. I don't know whether it was all escape fantasies because I was feeling rather an outsider and unwanted in my home life. And the small rural town where I was raised had limited opportunities. I also dreamed of living in New York City well the New York City Life has already happened for me I was able to cross that off my bucket list in the 90s and early 2000s. It's almost unbelievable and incredible when i get the opportunity to actually do one of these drempt about activities. Today for example - ...

Simply Defeat!

Image
A level of defeat It's 2 AM in New Mexico. The night is calm and clear. At least it is now. The stars are bright and the area around me is quiet.  A week ago, I was robbed. It was a quiet robbery. I wasn't there. My things were stolen while I was away shopping for my weekly groceries. My friend's were robbed as well. They feel violated and unsafe. It has taken me some time to process my own feelings because, as I and likely others who have experienced other traumas in their lifetimes, I became busy creatively problem solving anything I could have control over. I gave hugs, I listened to others processing, I prepared healthy foods. I made lots of hot drinks for all of us. I deep cleaned cupboards. And rifled through my rig looking for extranious items to possibly get rid of -- yeah, not much more to let go of.  I thought. and thought about my summer travels. I thought about my teaching classes. I thought about being alone. I thought about getting even older. I thought ab...

2022 Chevy Tracker Travels - New Mexico

Image
A few days ago I decided to drive to New Mexico to visit friends. I stopped in St Johns Arizona to see my mechanic Stan. I have him check out the tracker and had the oil changed. It was an odd day for me emotionally, I just was off, I knew it was time to go but my processes were slow and for some reason I felt a little clumsy minded. I took my time getting to Springerville Arizona and decided to eat in the car and then take a nap before driving a longer stretch. That did turn out to be a good idea. When I woke later in the evening I drove a number of miles and crossed the New Mexico state line.  In the dark cool night there were many herds of deer and elk along the road and it took a lot more energy to watch for them while driving in the dark. After I saw an owl swoop down and take some small animal from the side of the road for it s evening meal, I decided to find another place to rest. I pulled into a small gas station parking lot beside a a trucker with his engine ru...

Chevy Tracker Travels - Colorado USA

Image
Hey y'all! It's been a busy day and week.  I am back at the Shop and Wash laundromat in Loveland, Colorado. What a lovely location. We have had quite a bit of rain this week. I've been urban camping because I made a couple decisions earlier this month that didn't pan out as far as finding free campsites within a reasonable distance to this area. I have to remember everything is relative.   The Tracker is doing great. I need to check the fluids again, it's been hot and I have been doing in town driving on a daily basis - that's different from most of my life. In all this rain, I discovered that I have a little (ya right, in a tiny space like this it doesn't seem tiny) leak. The water is coming in from the top of the rear window trim, I expect the weather stripping all needs to be replaced - and I am not ready or prepared to do that job yet... and being very careful with the money I have in my credit union, I'm not buying silicone right now either. I expe...
